El Monasterio, La Montañeta, Los Realejos

Whilst this restaurant is just over an hour’s drive from the south, it is so well worth it. From the superb setting and views, to the excellent food and choices available, it is just heaven on earth.

It was originally a monastery and is built over 100,000m2 with numerous buildings and outhouses, stables and small houses for the animals. There is the farm area where there are small horses, ducks, chickens and goats. The monastery buildings are exquisite. The gardens are gorgeous. You find it by taking the motorway to Carrefour, then the connexion to the north motorway and follow it round coming off at the Los Realejos turn off. Cross the motorway and head up the hill into the village of la Montañeta. Something special. Reservations 922 340707

Mesón Era Las Mozas, Valle San Lorenzo

This restaurant is hidden away in the back roads of Valle San Lorenzo. It specialises in meats from the grill. You can either eat in the tree covered garden or in the dining room. Excellent value for money. House wine is very drinkable. Choose what meats you want on your “parrillada” and all share a little of everything. About 20€ per head including wine!!

Lovely Canarian restaurant.

Open: Tues to Fri 13.00 to 16.00 and 19.00 to 23.00

Sat & Sun 13.00 to 17.00 and 19.00 to 23.00 Closed Mondays

Mesón Las Rejas, La Camella

Located in the village of La Camella, this restaurant has featured for many years in the ¡Qué Bueno! Restaurant guide. Inside it resembles a grand old house with two different areas for dining, as well as for private parties and has been open since 1990, run as a family business. We were first introduced to this restaurant for lunchtime tapas, as we had to wait for the local “men’s outfitters” to open as hubbie needed a new suit. Hard life eh!

We soon hurried back for evening meals. Our favourite dish is their fillet steak (solomillo) with Roquefort sauce, although there is plenty to choose from on their menu. In Mesón Las Rejas they have a cooled wine warehouse and more than 200 wines from the main D.O. (origen dominion) from Spain.

Las Gangarras, Buzanada

Las Gangarras was built to resemble an old Guanche village (the original inhabitants of the island). The restaurant that is located here specialises in Canarian foods, especially grills and also rabbit which is a speciality on the island.

You can eat either inside one of the little houses or outside under the fig trees. The grounds grow an abundance of avocados, lemons, orange, bananas etc and so fresh food is the norm.

We have spent many a Sunday afternoon having a late lunch starting around two/three with a few friends and not left until about eight!! It is a real oasis, very relaxing and away from it all, and yet only about ten minutes form Los Cristianos or Golf del Sur.

Open from Tues to Sun 13.00 – 23.00. Reservations 922 76 64 23

Restaurante Sakura, Golf del Sur

Here on Golf del Sur on the seafront by the Aguamarina apartments. It offers a selection of Thai & Chinese food, along with Sushi. My favourite part is sitting at the Teppankayi table where you watch your food being cooked in front of you. Excellent food and good entertainment. Tel: 922738393

El Molino Blanco, San Eugenio

The El Molino Blanco restaurant is located in the tourist area of Adeje, in the South of Tenerife. This fantastic restaurant serves excellent barbecued meat based dishes and typical Canarian recipes in a pleasant environment with top quality service.

The restaurant has a welcoming decor and the presentation of its dishes is exquisite. This, along with its live show, makes eating at the Molino Blanco an unforgettable experience. The restaurant’s atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful indigenous plants make sit a very enjoyable experience. If it’s good enough for Jennifer Lopez, then it’s good enough for us!! http://www.molino-blanco.com/ingles.htm

Clarets

Clarets is one of the oldest restaurants in the south of Tenerife. Originally the building belonged to a banana and tomato plantation before the development of the pretty village of Chayofa, so it is quite unique to the area. The restaurant has in its time been operated by various nationalities, providing different cuisines. But now it is simply one of the best restaurants in Tenerife. Entertainment provided most evenings. A great evening out with simply fantastic food. Situated in the centre of the village approximately 3kms up the Arona road from Los Cristianos turn off.
